Our Philosophy

‘Feminism’ has long since been seen by those in the movement to be far too broad a term. Among eco-feminism, black feminism, pro-sex feminism (the list goes on and on…) there are often considerably different ideological and activist approaches to the subject. The ‘worlds’ of feminism sometimes appear to collide and threaten to destroy the movement from within. This blog aims to include and consider as many feminist viewpoints as possible in hopes of reinforcing the common goal we all strive for: full rights and equality for all people.

The words we write here may be of varying impact. They may challenge you to reconsider a position you hold dear; or introduce you to something you have previously not considered. They may change your mind, or reinforce your own opinion. Nonetheless, the words on this page are important. Words matter, as insignificant as they may appear to be. The words of the Bill of Rights, which were considered to apply only to property –owning white men, were later used as the basis for people of color and white women to claim their rights. The words of one man, who spoke of his dream of equality, helped to inspire an entire generation of disenfranchised people to fight for equality. International law, often laughed at as an unenforceable, overly idealistic set of norms, has provided millions of men and women around the world with the certainty that what they have suffered was not God’s will, or the way things should be; and it has given them hope that things can and will change. Beyond that, these supposedly useless international norms have given us the terms to articulate our grievances and claim our rights in the face of our governments.

Words are powerful. They matter. Words can hurt, and they can inspire fear. But words can also heal, and they can give hope that things will change for the better. Words can change the world. Thus we decided to name our blog ‘Wor(l)ds of Feminism’, in hopes of creating a space for a respectful, thoughtful and discourse of all things feminist.
